It all started a little over 4 1/2 years ago, I was in San Diego feeling really unhappy with how everything in my life was turning out and I was going through a confusing and difficult time of extreme highs and lows in my life that were affecting my mental health and personal well-being. And overall, just……lost.
For quite some time, this left me feeling out of place and broken. After months of researching and contemplating, I booked my first one-way ticket to Rome ready to start my 4-month study abroad program & 1 1/2 month solo backpacking trip afterward.
People always told me that studying abroad was the best decision they ever made and boy were they right. I was able to finish my college experience by exploring new places and experiencing new things and I’m glad that I did because my mind was open to finding spiritual enlightenment to overcome the struggles I was dealing with.
At first, it was a bit terrifying because it was my first time traveling to Europe alone and I didn’t know anyone in my program. Little did I know, traveling became good for my own personal growth, reflection, appreciating the little things in life, meeting some of the best people ever, giving me the freedom to see so many beautiful places in the world through a different lens, leaving me with an eye-opening and life-changing adventure forever.
Traveling is truly one of life’s greatest gifts. My gratitude for it has grown for life itself because there is so much beauty and diversity in the world that never ceases to amaze me. So embrace the excitement of the unknown that traveling teaches you because it will help find that inner glow of happiness to be who you are.
And when it doubt, look at the clouds in the sky. They make everything seem relaxing and peaceful. It’s these still moments that rejuvenates the mind, body, & soul, reminding us that it’s never too late to restore renewed energy, recover, & start or try anything new.
